Karen Barr and Mark Johnston Attend Creating Change 2015

Creating Change, the 27th National Conference on LGBT Equality, took place in Denver February 4 through February 8, and Karen Barr, GLAD Council Moderator, and Mark Johnston, Executive Director of GLAD’s Open & Affirming Ministry Program, were on hand to soak up all that the conference had to offer.

Mark focused his attendance on workshops on immigration and family acceptance as well as support sessions for non-profit executive directors. Karen especially focused her time on workshops that addressed ways American fundamentalism is exporting homophobia to Africa.

At a reception held so that attendees could meet welcoming seminaries, Mark reports that he was impressed to see so many Disciples Seminaries represented. Brite Divinity School, the first seminary to join GLAD’s Open & Affirming Ministry Program, was also present with a booth in the Creating Change exhibit hall.
