What You Need to be Doing at General Assembly!

How you can help!

Do join us – and share these events with your friends – help us build a church that welcomes all by encouraging your colleagues in ministry, your church leaders, and others who could use the information, support, and resources that we offer to attend these events and come to our booth.

We have lots and lots for you at General Assembly this year!

Pre-Assembly Events on Saturday

First, there’s the Pre-Assembly Event. On Saturday morning Sam Brinton will be talking with us about conversion therapy. Sam’s story is compelling and their understanding is deep. On Saturday afternoon Dr. Robyn Henderson-Espinoza will be talking with us about Embarking on Revolutionary Love & Making a Community of Difference. Robyn will bring us an interactive experience and a conversation that creates action. You don’t want to miss either of these.

Come help us out in the booth!

Of course you want to spend an hour helping us build a church that welcomes all. What better way than helping us at the Alliance Q booth in the exhibit hall? Training will be provided. Click here to sign up.

Informal Dinner Gathering for LGBTQ Clergy and Seminarians

We especially want to encourage all LGBTQ clergy and seminarians to attend the Informal Dinner Gathering for LGBTQ Clergy and Seminarians. This will be an informal but important gathering for conversation and networking. It is our hope that LGBTQ clergy and seminarians who are in need of connecting with others will find support; and our hope that LGBTQ clergy and seminarians will be there to offer support and connection. Do join us!

Building an Inclusive Church Training

Also on Saturday – and perhaps the only excuse you might have for missing the Pre-Assembly Event – Dr. Mark Johnston will present an all-day in-depth training on the Building an Inclusive Church Toolkit. Are you hoping your congregation can become Open & Affirming? Do you want to be part of supporting other congregations in their Open & Affirming journeys? Then this workshop is something you can’t miss!

My Church isn’t Ready to Become Open & Affirming and Other Myths

On Sunday afternoon Dr. Johnston is presenting a workshop: My Church isn’t Ready to Become Open & Affirming and Other Myths. Come yourself and encourage others to come and learn how every church can move forward to more welcome with grace and respect.

Alliance Q Banquet

Banquet tickets are nearly sold out, so please, buy your ticket online at ga.disciples.org now.

Of course, there’s the fabulous and famous Alliance Q Banquet on Sunday evening. Our speaker will Naomi Washington Leapheart, Faith Work Director of the National LGBTQ Task Force.

Open & Affirming Ministries Aftersession

And don’t miss the Open & Affirming Ministries Aftersession on Tuesday night, a time to connect and renew our ties as Open & Affirming Ministries. Of course, all are welcome!
