Resource: 7 Reasons Why We Affirm LGBTQ+ Persons
Central Christian Church New Albany, IN, understands the importance of proclaiming its affirmation. Following its study of God vs. Gay by Jay Michaelson, CCCNA created “7 Reasons Why We Affirm LGBTQ+ Persons.”
Rev. Paul Justice Snyder explains that the resource came about from the small group study over Michaelson’s book. Rev. Snyder created a discussion guide for the study. Contact us if you’re interested in the discussion guide!
Snyder says, “Our church understands that ‘open’ and ‘affirming’ are two different things. So, one of the reasons for doing the study was to learn how to be more affirming from a Biblical and theological perspective. We saw this study and the resource we created as important steps to becoming the affirming church we want to be. As well, we recognize that not all people understand what ‘Open & Affirming’ means. We wanted to create a resource that helped people in our community understand why we are ‘Open & Affirming.'”
With gratitude for their study and work, AllianceQ shares “7 Reasons Why” from Central Christian Church New Albany:

Does your congregation have a resource that may benefit others on the journey? Share with us as we widen the welcome, growing and learning always.
The Georgia Open & Affirming Ministry Team has something to share: the team is working on a new way to celebrate Pride with a drive-thru PRIDE celebration happening this fall.
No matter where you are on the journey, you’ll find suggestions for increasing welcome. It is a graceful process, tailored for each context:
- learn how to become an Open & Affirming church or ministry,
- build an inclusive online worship experience, or
- widen the welcome, being an Open & Affirming ministry.
Have you started the process? Consider continuing your journey toward O&A. Not sure where you’re at in the journey? Connect with our Executive Director + Minister or a regional team member in your area. Start here or email Rev. Guthrie Loy.
