Remembering Pulse and re-membering leadership, just laws
The Disciples LGBTQ+ Alliance remembers the 49 victims of the Pulse nightclub shooting four years ago. With the removal of LGBT healthcare protections by the current administration on the Pulse anniversary date, AllianceQ emphasizes that we must re-member leadership and shape just laws. The removal of LGBT healthcare protections is unjust. Members of our community are already disproportionately affected by the global pandemics of COVID-19, police brutality and violence. We will seek justice until racism, sexism, classism, transphobia, homophobia, islamophobia, xenophobia, and all other systems of oppression are completely and permanently dismantled. We will not let hate win. Disciples, we are a movement for wholeness in a fragmented world. We will not be whole until the wholeness of each member of the Body of Christ is honored and protected.
Our General Assembly’s resolution GA-1929, “Invitation to Education for Welcoming and Receiving the Gifts of Transgender and Gender-Diverse People” calls us to specific care and protection.
“…the General Assembly encourages the clergy of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) to prepare their minds and hearts to offer fulsome welcome to transgender and gender-diverse persons in their congregations and among their neighbors…
…the General Assembly calls upon all expressions of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) to grow in the embodiment of God’s generous welcome for transgender and gender-diverse people and their families through education, shifts in institutional language and practice, and the cultivation of trusting relationships with transgender and gender-diverse people and their families.”
For the well-being and wholeness of transgender and gender-diverse people and their families, for the well-being and wholeness of the Body of Christ, we must not let hate win. All means all.
Seeking and shaping justice,
AllianceQ
