Join the National Weekend of Prayer for the Freedom to Marry
As the Supreme Court is preparing to hear arguments on marriage equality cases from the 6th district on April 28th, possibly deciding marriage equality for the entire U.S., The Religious Institute has called for a National Weekend of Prayer for the Freedom to Marry for April 24th-26th.
GLAD has signed on as co-sponsor of the Weekend of Prayer and encourages you and your congregation to join in prayer for equal justice, rights, and responsibilities for all Americans.
The GLAD Alliance has supported the Religious Institute and other justice seeking organizations as this case has made its way to the U.S. Supreme Court. The Religious Institute together with Freedom to Marry have submitted a faith amicus brief signed by more than 1,900 faith leaders, including approximately 75 Disciples clergy, elders and other leaders, among them Rev. Dan Adolphson, GLAD Council Vice Moderator, Rev. Derek Penwell, GLAD Council Member, and Rev. Dr. Mark Johnston, GLAD’s Open & Affirming Ministry Program Executive Director.
You can sign on to the National Weekend of Prayer for the Freedom to Marry here, and suggested prayers can be found here.
