First Christian Church in Portland OR, one of the newest congregations on GLAD’s list of Open & Affirming Ministries, celebrated their first Affirmation Day last month with cake and flags!

Open & Affirming congregations are encouraged to remember their Open & Affirming commitment at least once a year. Some read their welcoming statement in worship, others host a speaker or hold a Bible study. This is an important time for members to brush up on their affirmation and for new members to come to a deeper understanding of welcome.
