Building an Inclusive Church Trainings Scheduled for Washington DC and Atlanta
“Is your congregation ready to engage an Open & Affirming Process?”
Mark Johnston, Executive Director of GLAD’s Open & Affirming Ministry Program, points out that this is actually the wrong question!
Dr. Johnston points out that for some congregations, talking about an Open & Affirming Process is fraught with fear and anxiety.
A better question, he suggests, is – “Is your congregation ready to take one small step towards more welcome?”
The GLAD Alliance has resources and suggestions to help move any congregation along the welcoming journey. One small step at a time is how we travel the welcoming journey. Click here for some suggestions.
And read on about the Building an Inclusive Church Trainings where you can get an in depth look at tools and resources to bring more welcome to your congregation.
The Building an Inclusive Church Toolkit is full of tools and resources for congregations on the journey to more welcome. The Toolkit is a set of tools and resources to build community, engage a congregation, and increase welcome; these tools are valuable long before a congregation is ready to talk about becoming Open & Affirming – and valuable long after, too.
Even better, Building an Inclusive Church Trainings provide an in depth look at how to use the Toolkit.
Contact Mark Johnston for more information.
Building an Inclusive Church Trainings have been scheduled for February 26-27 at National City Christian Church in Washington, DC, and March 11-12 at Johns Creek Christian Church in Johns Creek, GA (just outside of Atlanta). Trainers will be Rev. Mark Johnston, Ph.D., Executive Director of GLAD’s Open & Affirming Ministry Program, and Rev. Debra Peevey, Disciples Minister and Lead Ecumenical Trainer at the Institute for Welcoming Resources.
Registrations are due two weeks before the trainings, so help us out and register now!
You can help spread the word!
Would you like to see your church move along the journey to more welcome and become Open & Affirming? Do you know a church that has the potential to take this journey?
Be in touch with the church pastor and encourage the congregation to send a couple of members to a training. Sign up for the training yourself. Call some friends and encourage them to sign up for the training. And be in contact with Mark Johnston and let him know which churches you think should be sending people to one of these trainings.
