Get Involved!

Get Involved!

Rev. Dan Adolphson, GLAD Council Moderator, invites you to get involved in the work of the GLAD Alliance.

At our Minneapolis leadership retreat last fall, the GLAD Alliance Council began the process of restructuring our team structure. These teams are a great way for you as a member of GLAD to get involved in the strategic work we are doing to make sure there is a place at the table for everyone. Take a look below at the different options, and if you are interested, please contact me, Dan Adolphson, at glad@gladalliance.org.

Open & Affirming Ministries Team

The Mission of the Open & Affirming Ministry Program is to build a Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) that welcomes persons of all gender expressions and sexual orientations to the table of Christ’s communion and to the full life and leadership of the Christian Church.

The Executive Director of GLAD’s Open & Affirming Ministry Program has been tasked with fulfilling this mission. However, this mission is larger than any one person, and GLAD seeks to develop an Open & Affirming Ministry Team committed to the success of this mission.

Building this team is currently a work in progress, and some pieces are already coalescing. Yet there is much to build, and at this point in time we vision a team of committed individuals who contribute to the success of this mission by participating in one or more of these activities:

  • Provide counsel and direction to the Executive Director
  • Provide presence to the church at the General Assembly, Regional Assemblies, and in congregations, bringing tools and resources and offering connection to the expertise of the team,
  • Provide trainings to congregations interested in becoming Open & Affirming and mentoring congregations in the process of becoming Open & Affirming,
  • and other activities that we trust will become clear as a group of committed individuals become the Open & Affirming Ministry Team.

Justice Response Team

It is the mission of the Justice Response Team to support proactively Disciples justice ministries, justice ministries of other welcoming programs, and other justice issues as they intersect with the mission of the GLAD Alliance.

  • In the pursuit of this mission, the JRT will be proactive and in relationship with DJAN (Disciples Justice Action Network), DPF (Disciples Peace Fellowship), and other DOC justice ministries.
  • The JRT will interface with Reconciliation  and with the racial/ethnic ministries of the Christian Church ( North American Pacific Asian Disciples, National Convocation, Obra Hispaña) alongside the Moderator’s relationship with these ministries.
  • In conversation with the GLAD Council, the team will be free to find its passion, set its vision, and focus its work.

Development Team

The mission of the Development Team is to fund the GLAD Alliance’s mission through relationship building by seeking new participants in our ministry, nurturing relationships with our members, and soliciting support from individuals, ministries, and other sources.

Pastoral Care and Education Team

In pursuit of the GLAD Alliance’s mission, this team will provide care and resources in response to those in need, and providing timely educational resources to the Alliance and the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) regarding the importance of affirming LGBT people in the church.
