Trevor Lifeguard Workshop

The Trevor Project provides crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning young people.

The Trevor Project shares that “From our youth, we’ve heard countless stories about something as small as a single affirming comment changing their view of themselves and keeping them going through difficult times.”

Here’s one story:

“My math teacher was the first adult I came out to. She noticed something was bothering me and asked about it after class one day. I told her I was bisexual and just broke down crying. She hasn’t taught me for two years but she still teaches me so much about embracing my identity and loving myself every single day. I don’t know what I’d do without her and I’m so grateful for her continued help.”—Maryland, USA—Bisexual & Female, 16

As part of our mission, the Trevor Project is dedicated to educating young people and adults about LGTBQ-competent suicide prevention, risk detection, and response.

Clearly, conversations about suicide and suicide prevention can sometimes be challenging to bring into the classroom. The Trevor Project is here to help and support you in conducting these life-saving conversations on middle and high school campuses.

The Trevor Project has made all of its youth education resources available online here. This includes a Lifeguard Workshop video, suggestions for students who want to help, and lesson plans and resources.

Keeping our young people safe is a top priority. Check out the Trevor Project’s resources today and share them with the teachers in your congregation and local schools.
