As we witness the series of executive orders enacted by President Donald Trump, it becomes increasingly clear that his presidency seems to walk counter to the love of Christ in its actions and deeds. These decisions grieve us deeply as an organization that holds sacred the value of every human life and leads with the love of an inclusive God—one who shuns evil and rejoices in good.
On behalf of all that is good and holy, on behalf of the justice we are required to pursue, the mercy we are called to embody, and the humble walk we strive to live with every step, I, Rev. Jermell Witherspoon and the Alliance, affirm that the systems and powers we wrestle against are to be taken seriously. They demand our vigilance, our prayers, and our action.
To all who are weary and heavy laden, we pray for rest and restoration. We stand in solidarity with those who have been specifically targeted and harmed by President Trump’s godless rhetoric and unjust policies. We name and hold close those who have been called out, cast aside, and marginalized by this administration’s actions. We recognize that when injustice walks down one street and knocks on one door, it is in the neighborhood of us all. Let us remain vigilant, united, and unwavering in our commitment to justice, love, and the transformative power of God’s inclusive embrace.
