Fundraising Update

Since the beginning of the year, when planning started in earnest to call an Executive Director of the Open & Affirming Ministry Program, GLAD has been raising funds to create the income stream to make this position possible.

Trusting that GLAD’s members and the O&A churches would meet the challenge, GLAD called Rev. Dr. Mark Johnston to this position, starting July 1, just in time for Dr. Johnston to coordinate many of GLAD’s activities at the General Assembly in Orlando. Dr. Johnston worked hard for us on strategy towards passing Resolution GA-1327 and at GLAD’s exhibit hall booth providing resources to Assembly attendees and making contacts with pastors and members across the denomination.

GLAD’s immediate need is for annual pledges totaling $72,000, or $6,000/month. This amount will cover a reduced salary that Dr. Johnston has agreed to accept to begin this work, as well as a travel and expense budget and other GLAD expenses. The long term goal for annual pledges is $120,000/year or $10,000/month. This amount will cover Dr. Johnston’s full salary, a travel and expense budget, and a significant amount for GLAD’s ministry beyond the Open & Affirming Ministry Program.try Program.

Currently, GLAD’s members and O&A congregations have pledged an ongoing $32,400, and individuals and congregations have made one time gifts of $15,500, for a first year total of almost $48,000.

Current ongoing monthly pledges from individuals range from $5 to $175, and recent one time contributions from congregations range from $250 to $7500.

For more ideas or information on how to support GLAD financially as well as talking points for speaking with others, contact Mark Johnston at Johnston at mark@gladalliance.com.

Every amount helps, and your assistance in this effort is vital. Here’s what you can do:

  • Go to http://contribution.gladalliance.org and make your own pledge. Every contribution of any amount is helpful and appreciated, and we challenge you to challenge yourself in the amount you contribute.

  • Speak with others in your congregation about making their individual pledge.

  • Work with others in your congregation towards an ongoing contribution to GLAD in your congregation’s outreach and mission budget.
