Hello, siblings across this denomination and beyond. As we reflect on this Trans Day of Remembrance, I offer this prayer in honor of those amongst the great cloud of witnesses, those who we honor and love. – Rev. Jermell Witherspoon, AllianceQ Executive Director
Holy One,
I come to You today with a heart heavy from the weight of loss, yet filled with gratitude for the lives we honor on this Trans Day of Remembrance. As I travel through this world—through cities, landscapes, and emotions—I carry with me the memories of those we have lost. Their light, extinguished too soon, leaves an ache in my soul, but also a spark of purpose.
For the ones who were silenced, God, may their voices echo in the call for justice. For the ones who were unseen, may their lives remind us to look deeply and love fully. For the ones who walked a road too difficult to bear, may we strive to pave paths of safety, dignity, and affirmation for those who come after.
God of all journeys, You see us in our wandering—through grief, through questions, through hope. You hold us in my longing for connection, for belonging, for a world where every trans life is honored and protected. On this day, we ask for strength to remember, courage to speak, and love to carry the legacy of those who are no longer with us.
Holy one, As we move forward, may our steps honor their memory. May our hands build bridges of compassion, and may our hearts never cease to carry their names. For in remembering, we resist. In honoring, we heal. And in loving, we keep their spirits alive.
In Your holy and affirming presence, I pray. Amen.
