Black Pastors Launch African Tour to Counteract Rick Warren’s Anti-Gay Movement
Rick Warren of the very conservative and very large Saddleback Church has been active in Africa spreading a message that includes an abundance of homophobia. Pastor Warren’s work in Africa has been said to inspire Uganda’s Anti-Homosexuality Act under which violence against LGBT people increased tenfold, though Pastor Warren denies it.
To counter this effort, The Fellowship of Affirming Ministries, founded by Rev. Dr. Yvette Flunder, has launched a month long tour of key African nations where LGBTI communities continue to experience extreme discrimination and persecution.
The purpose of the tour is to bring global attention to human rights issues in Africa, support affirming African organizations and local movements, and promote governmental policies and the policies of organized religious structures that support LGBTI dignity, inclusion, and justice.
