Chalice Press Opposes Legislation Legalizing Discrimination in Missouri Constitution
The Christian Board of Publication, an Open & Affirming Ministry of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) located in St. Louis, MO, sent a press release to the Missouri Speaker of the House and Senate President on March 17 opposing proposed legislation that would “enshrine discrimination against the LGBTQIA community in the Missouri Constitution.”

This legislation is part of a trend of such legislation in state houses around the country falsely using the banner of religious freedom to legalize discrimination against LGBTQ persons.
As of this writing, the bill has passed in the Missouri Senate despite a 39-hour filibuster by Senate Democrats and has been sent to the Missouri House. More than two-thirds of the House are Republican. If the bill passes in the House, it must then be approved by voters statewide before being added to the state constitution.
The press release from The Christian Board of Publication strongly states that
By a unanimous vote of our Board of Directors, CBP strongly urges the House of Representatives to let SJR 39 die, and we hope the Senate will rescind its passage before the end of the term. Do not tarnish Missouri’s reputation by passing this discriminatory, economy-damaging legislation.
