transACTION: A Transgender Curriculum For Churches and Religious Institutions
transAction is a three session curriculum that educates a congregation in the basics of understanding how to welcome transgender people. The three sessions focus on understanding, acceptance, and welcome.
Session one focuses on understanding gender identity and expression, including an exploration of how culture shapes gender expression for all of us, descriptions of cisgender privilege, and basic definitions – such as ‘cisgender.’
Focusing on acceptance, the second session looks at Biblical references that speak to transgender issues, invites participants to consider the ways transgender people often experience our congregations, and explores multi-cultural understandings of transgender people.
Session three asks “How do we get to welcoming?” This session explores some basics on how to interact with transgender people, encourages congregations to continue their own education, and examines a congregation’s physical facilities.
transAction provides a solid introduction into the basics of welcoming transgender people. Paired with other resources on transgender people available on GLAD’s website, your congregation can take another step in the journey to welcoming all to the table.
