GLAD Presence at the VA assembly and Quadrennial in Atlanta

In the past month, GLAD has been present at both the Virginia Regional Assembly and Quadrennial.

At the Virginia Regional Assembly, Mark Johnston, Executive Director of GLAD’s Open & Affirming Ministry Program, teamed up with Rev. Dr. Terrye Williams from Hilton Christian Church in Newport News, VA, to offer two workshops. The first workshop described Hilton Christian Church’s experience becoming and being an Open & Affirming congregation in Virginia. At the second workshop, Dr. Johnston presented on the importance of being an Open & Affirming Congregation and resources and process for becoming O&A.

While in Virginia, Dr. Johnston also preached at the First Christian Church of Lynchburg, VA, an Open & Affirming Congregation of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

At the Disciples Women’s Quadrennial, Dr. Johnston staffed a booth for three days, speaking with women from across the country, providing suggestions and resources for increasing welcome in their congregations and becoming Open & Affirming.

Future plans include exhibit booths and workshops at NAPAD Convocation, Pastor’s Conference, and National Convocation.
