Not All Like That (NALT) Christians Project

Not All Like That (NALT) Christians Project is a new web based project of Christians proclaiming their belief in full LGBT equality.

Developed by John Shore and Truth Wins Out in collaboration with Dan Savage of It Gets Better fame, NALT will launch on Wednesday, Sept. 4.

This project was born out of an observation made by Dan Savage that “[The problem is] all those quiet, timid, and cowardly NALT Christians out there who support marriage equality but have allowed their conservative co-religionists to hijack Christianity. (“NALT” stands for “not all like that,” the phrase you hear from liberal Christians whenever you [complain] about conservative Christians, i.e., “We’re not all like that!” Yes, yes, NALTs—we know. You’re not all like that.”

According to John Shore “We must stand up for young LGBT people, who are so vulnerable to feeling worthless and shunned. We must eradicate the culturally inculcated moral underpinnings that serves to support such bullying. And we must bring to the fore a renewed Christianity that, instead of standing for anti-gay bigotry, stands for the integrity and love that Jesus Christ himself so radically stood for.”

We’d love to share your Disciples NALT video with the Alliance in Crossbeams and on the web. Do let us know at crossbeams@gladalliance.com that you’ve submitted a video.

The purpose of the NALT Christians Project is to give LGBT-affirming Christians a means of proclaiming to the world—and especially to young gay people—their belief and conviction that there is nothing anti-biblical or at all inherently sinful about being gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender.

The NALT Project is collecting videos to spread the word about this project to every LGBT-affirming Christian you know who would also be willing to step up and have their affirming voice be heard.

The NALT website includes guidelines for making and submitting videos. So get together with a friend, a partner, or your whole congregation and proclaim that you’re NALT!.
