GLAD Receives Major Gift from Cherokee Christian Church

Lizzy Beach, GLAD Council Member and Development Team Leader, reports on a recent major gift to the GLAD Alliance.

The GLAD Council and the Alliance entire would like to thank and celebrate the members of Cherokee Christian Church for making a $48,000 legacy gift granted to the Alliance, designated to support the advancement of the mission of GLAD: transforming the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) into a just and inclusive church that welcomes persons of all gender expressions and sexual identities into the full life and leadership of the church. Cherokee has recently closed it doors for good, but in the wake of its closing, has sent a clear message with its donation: ‘ALL MEANS ALL’ is both just and important!

Over the next three to five years, the GLAD Alliance, in responding to the overwhelming support of General Assembly Resolution 1327, has set in motion a Strategic Vision to expand its reach and call for justice now more than ever, supporting churches in becoming Open & Affirming, in education and pastoral care for LGBTQ persons, and empowerment to respond to issues of justice.

To do this work, GLAD launched its 2014 Membership Drive in April to increase the Alliance’s capacity both with people and financial resources. GLAD is not funded through the General Church but ONLY through individual memberships and contributions and by congregational contributions. (Note: you are not a GLAD member by virtue of being a member of an O&A congregation.) Please BECOME A MEMBER TODAY and join Cherokee in celebrating the work of the Alliance!
