United Against Oppression

1979 was pivotal moment in the history of the Alliance. Many remember well what was going on in the life of LGBT movement within the Christian church during this time, but are we are also aware of what was happening in the racial Reconciliation ministry in 1979? The workshop seeks to reflect on the past of these two marginalized movements within the Christian church and imagine a future together.

The year is now 2019, how can these two ministries work together to imagine a brighter future for the church? The future hope of wholeness in our fragmented world will be done through intersectional justice. We must imagine how the Alliance and Reconciliation might move forward together united against oppression within our churches and society.

Tools for Open and Affirming Ministry

Join us for a day of deep dives into the grace-filled, community building tools used as part of an Open & Affirming process: Graceful Engagement, Storytelling, One-to-One Conversations, bringing the Bible to the conversation, and more.

These tools and skills are essential parts of the Building an Inclusive Church Toolkit, the material recommend by AllianceQ for congregations planning an Open & Affirming journey.

This Event will provide you tools useful in an Open & Affirming process and, indeed, in many conversations and decision making processes in a congregation.

You will find this workshop especially helpful if:

– You are a member of a regional Open & Affirming Team (or want to be) and want to increase you skills to assist congregations on their O&A journey.

– You might be interested in becoming an O&A trainer for AllianceQ and want an introduction to the tools and skills needed in an O&A process.

– You want to help lead your congregation in an O&A process.
